Matthew has been playing the piano since the age of six.  He started lessons with Mrs. Yvonne Zanetti, who taught him to read music and the importance of touch and rhythm.  At age 11 Matthew began taking piano lessons under Gordon Kennedy, learning theory and jazz piano.  Gordon also taught Matthew saxophone, guitar and bass.  Throughout high school Matthew participated in several bands on guitar, keyboard, saxophone, bass and vocals. 

   At age 15 Matthew began studying under Martin Martinez, honing his improvisation skills.  Matthew believes that a quest for learning and understsanding new things is the key to a life well lived. 

       During the summers of his junior and senior year of High School Matthew studied under jazz guitarist Steve Homan at the Brubeck Institute. 

   Upon graduation from Manteca High, Matthew attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and earned a degree in Industrial Engineering.

  While considering graduate school, Matthew began teaching at GK Music.  He offers lessons in piano, guitar, bass and saxophone.  Besides teaching the mechanics of each instrument, he wants to pass on the love and joy of music.  Matthew welcomes students of all ages and skill levels.
